Why Square Dance?
The 6 GOOD F's

- FUN -

Smiles at the door, laughter in the air—Square dancing is all about enjoyment! There’snopenalty box, no timeouts, and no scorecards. It’s simply a chance to step away from life’sstresses and dance to the rhythm. No one wins or loses—everyone just shares the joy of dancing in sync with others. Square dance can be done to all kinds of music, as long asit has a strong beat. The best part? Square dancing is affordable and accessible to everyone!

- FRIENDSHIP -

Square dancing brings together people from all walks of life, each united by their love for the dance. It’s a place where "shop talk" or background differences don’t matter. Everyone connects through the simple joy of dancing and making new friends.

- FAMILY -

Square dancing is for all ages, from 10 to 100! Families can dance together, and younger children who aren’t ready to dance can play safely in the designated areas. It’s a welcoming, clean, and safe environment for everyone. Singles are always welcome, and partners are encouraged but not required. Square dancing is a lifelong activity—perfect for creating memories across generations.

- FOCUS -

Square dancing is a mental workout! You’ll engage your brain while following the calls and responding to the changing sequence of moves. It’s like “Simon Says” with music, but even more fun. Your next step depends on where you are in the square and what the caller instructs, requiring full attention and focus to keep up with the dance.

- FOOTSTEPS -

Get ready to move! A typical night of square dancing can have you walking 9,000 to 10,000 steps—great for your health! It’s a low-impact aerobic workout with arm movements, perfect for improving balance and coordination. Plus, all the laughter is great for your lungs and mood. It’s a far more enjoyable workout than just walking around the block.

- FREQUENCY -

In the Spokane area, square dancing is a regular weekend activity, with dances every Friday and Saturday night across 17 local clubs. And square dancing isn’t just a local affair—it's a global community! No matter where you are in the world, you’ll find people dancing and smiling together. Plus, all the calls are in English, so you can join in no matter where you go.
