President

This is the last call for nominations for the Hall of Fame. I must have them before I leave today.

Vice President - No Report

Area Delegate

The last State Meeting was at the Rose Valley Grange in Kelso, Washington on January 16th. The breakfast and lunch they served was well received.

Membership and Insurance reported 3,099 members in the state.  Spokane is the 2nd largest council in the state with 607 members. Mt. Baker is the largest council with 718 members.

The June 2016 issue of Footnotes will be the last printed issue to be distributed. Beginning next September, all issues of Footnotes will be available online.

I will defer to the State Nominating Committee Report for list of Nominees for State Office. There was a motion placed on the floor for a by-law change that would extend the term of office for State Officers to 2 years. This motion was tabled and a committee was formed to investigate the technicalities of such motion.

The Grant Committee presented 4 Grants to the State Board for funding approval. On of these included the Spokane Council grant request for the Recruitment Booth at the Spokane Fair. This was narrowly approved by a vote of 7-6.   I highly doubt that if presented again, this will not be approved. Also, there is talk that the Grant Committee will be disbanded as early as the September Meeting. So, if there any pending grants to be presented by the clubs, associations, or councils, they need to be submitted as by the end of July.

As a reminder, please register and plan to attend the 2016 state festival in Longview this June. Jet Roberts is the featured Caller and Chuck and Sandi Weiss is the featured Cuer. Also, the Leadership Seminar at the Circle 8 Ranch in July will feature Kevin Thomaier and Joyce Sebree. Registration Forms for both events are in the each of the Spokane Halls.

The next State Meeting will be right here in Spokane on May 14th.

Respectfully submitted,   Mindy Boggs  -  Spokane Area Delegate

Promotion Director - Wade Driver will be here on the 5th Saturday. There will be a plus dance in the afternoon and a mainstream dance at 7 pm.

As Mindy said it is very  unlikely that the State will pay for the fair next year. So we will have to decide if we want to do the Fair as it will be coming out of the councils pocket and runs $1,200 to $1,500.

As the Visit Spokane representative I attended a marketing meeting last Tuesday. I told them about our 2017 State Festival and how we were trying to link it to the Idaho Festival in Wallace.I connected with the representative from Silverwood. We will be able to get a code for special price tickets. There will be limited dates for their use. I also spoke with the guy that does the marketing and trade shows for the golf courses in this area. He could help us set up a special golf tournament.

SPECIAL COMMITTEES

2017 State Festival

We had a meeting last weekend right here with our chairpeople as well as interested parties. As of now early bird registration is available. You have until June to get these in. It is $5 off of the regular registration. We need Spokane Dancers in Longview. we need to support that festival so that they will support us in 2017.

There will be skit Saturday after the dance and we ask that all Spokane dancers who are at the festival participate in the skit and be there to support our kick off of the 2017 Festival.

We will need people to help the chairmen of the different committees. Look at the list of committees and find a place that you would like to help. There is something that everyone can do to make this a better festival.

The next general meeting will be sometime in May. Remember it is is our festival, it is not mine. We need all dancers to help. This will be a great weekend with lots of visitor from around the state and other states.

2016 May State Meeting

At the January State Meeting in Kelso, invitations to our May meeting were given to Committee members.  They were also placed on the State and Council websites and inserted in the March and April editions of Footnotes.

For the continental breakfast, five dance organizations have each been requested to provide one breakfast casserole by 8:00.  Committee members will provide pastries.  Juices and a few other items will need to be purchased through Council, including plates, cups, utensils, etc. for the breakfast and lunch.  We anticipate these preparations will be sufficient, since there are two morning breakfast meetings elsewhere.

We anticipate that local dancers will bring snack items for the Friday and Saturday dances, as is typical in our Council.

The meals committee decided to request that clubs provide lunch for one table of dancers during the May 14, 2016 State meeting date.  We thought it would be fun to have different ethnicities at each table.  An email was sent the end of January to at least two board members of each club in our Council, with these specific requests.  One or more clubs were asked to provide two main dishes, two salads and a light desert for each of the ten tables.  We anticipated some duplicates, but only have one so far (Italian will be at three of the tables).  The other tables planned are of German, American, Polynesian, Mexican and Irish.  Two tables are not designated at this point (Diamond Squares and Krazy 8's/Twin City Twirlers).  It is recommended that one or two dancers be available to decorate and assist in serving at their table (by 11:00 a.m.).  Clubs are encouraged to decorate their tables according to nationality selected, and include their clubs' names as sponsoring that table.  One or two member of Spurs & Skirts will be available prior to the meeting to greet attendees and to hand out Agendas.
