President

These officers shall perform the duties prescribed by these bylaws and by the parliamentary authority adopted by the SAC.

President

The President shall:     
     A. preside at all meetings of the SAC and the Board of Directors;     
     B. appoint chairmen of all standing and special committees, except the Nominating Committee;     
     C. be an ex officio member of all committees;     
     D. be reimbursed for travel and lodging expenses for State Federation meetings as approved by the                   
          SAC at the same rate as the State Federation allows;     
     E. upon completion the term of office, serve the following year as:          
         (1) an ex officio advisor to the SAC;          
         (2) Chairman of the SAC Nominating Committee.

  1. He/she shall represent the area council at coordinating committee meetings; is approved to attend state meetings and be reimbursed by the council at the same rate as State Federation officers and committee people

Shall appoint a bylaws and standing rules review committee each year.

Shalappoint the chairman of the hall of fame committee.

June President's Duties

There is not a president's message due this month for July.

Joint board meeting - old board thru old business and new board takes over with nebusiness.

Appoint four trustees from area council for the WDA Trustees meetings in September and January. Send theinames and address to the WDA secretary.

Discuss whether or not to have board meetings in July or August to discuss mall dances and the Spokane Fair participation.

As soon as you can after the joint board meeting, lethe Footnotes editor know who your Footnotes reporter and your round dance committee representatives are.

Check the state directory for the current Footnotes editor. Email: footnotes_wa@yahoo.com. You should notify them in writing by June 30th•

WASHINGTON STATE FESTIVAL: Check with the state hospitality to see if they will be displaying council banners. If they are, have the council banner to hospitality by Friday afternoonDiscuss line up for parade of councils.

Coordinating meetings are every three months. They are attended by area council president, vice presidenand promotion director; Western Dance Association president, vice president and program chairman; Spokane Callers and Cuers Association president, vice president and promotion chairman; NortSpokane Dance Association president, vice presidenand program director. The purpose of the meetings is to discuss any issues that anyone brings up. Any actions must approved by each individual association. Only when all of the appropriate associations take action, can the issue be acted on or given to the general council for action.

Notify neofficers of the next coordinating meeting; place, date and time. Be sure that the corresponding secretary reports any awards giveto area dancers at State Festival

If you have a board meeting this month, discuss mall dances and dancers to work the introduction to square dancing dances.

Callers and cuer’s contracts: locate these contracts and give one copy to the promotion director, one copy to the treasurer and oncopy to the president.

Spokane Interstate Fair: the vice president is in charge of the Spokane Interstate Fair promotion as far as the dancing times and booth if one is being used.

If you wish to sell calendars at the salmon barbecue, be sure to contact the Western Dance Association's president for their approval

The insurance coordinator has been added to the area delegate position and now is included with his/her duties.

If there ia fall council dance, the promotion director should do flyers early.

August President's Duties

Write president's message for the September newsletter and send to the newsletter editor by the 1st of each month (August May). These will be for the newsletter publications of September through JuneJuly and August are included in the June newsletter. List new officers, awards given at thState Festival or at local festivalsList all promotional dancinincluding the Spokane InterstatFair, with dates and times (iknown).

Introduction to square dancing dances: The Spokane Callers and Cuers Association is the host for these dances. The Spokane Area Council is in charge of opening and closing the doors, and the kitchen. The Western Dance Association and the North Spokane Dance Association are to furnish the halls. These are usually on the first Friday of October (NSDC) and the second Friday iOctober (WDC).

Be sure the recording secretary knowthat one of their duties is to have council rosters ready to be handed out at the September general meeting to the board of directors, delegates, committee chairs and the program director of the Western Dance Association and the North Spokane Dance Association.

The dance schedule coordinator, or their designee, memos the area council schedule and the

Appoint a bylaws and standing rules review committee. Council bylaws and standing rules should be reviewed each year. It is probably best to start this early as you will need to appoint a committee, they need to work and recommend if there are changes to be made, then it needs to be presented to the general membership for discussion. Bylaws changes need to be brought up, published and then voted on at the following general meeting. Changes in the standing rules can be brought up and voted on during the same meeting. The bylaws and the standing rules were lastupdated November 2010.

September President's Duties

Send the president's message for the October newsletter to the newsletter editor by the 1st of September.

General meeting is on the second Sunday.

General meeting: first meeting of new dance season (#4 of standing rules); the President should explain the State Federation, its composition, the purpose of the council and also the duties of club delegates to area council.

Introduce the new North Spokane Dance Association president

Introduction to square dancing dances: SAC needed to work front door to get people to sign in for insurance purposes, a table with flyers and people to help in the kitchen. The council is in charge of opening and closing the dance hal1.

Per Standing Rule # 12: Travel allowance will be allowed for the three state meetings per year for the area council presidentthe area council state delegate and the heritage center representative. The general council must approve these allowances at each September general meeting for the coming year.

Look through the list of club delegates; make sure no one is representing more than one club or the area councilIf so, let them know so their club can appoint someone else so the club will have that extra vote.

The immediate past president shall be the chair of the nominating committee. The president should work with the past president and appoint four additional members to this committee and the chair of the nominating committee will introduce them at the November meeting.

Appoint a committee of one (1) couple/single from the Spokane Area Council, Spokane Callers and Cuers Association, Western Dance Association and the North Spokane Dance Association to review the Hall of Fame Guidelines. (Odd years)

Get hall of fame book from past president and also alinformation from hall of fame committee. Presena picture of the hall of fame recipient to the presidents of the Western Dance Association and the NortSpokane Dance Association at the November general council meeting, which is to bhung on thwall in the dining rooms of the Western Dance Center and the North Spokane Dance Hall.

Hold a Board meeting this month at the home of a Board member or Committee Chair.

You will usually receive a letter requesting nominations for the state awards and it will have the information on where to send nominations. Send the nominations by the deadlines for the Parker Award (focallers), McNutt Award (for cuers), MacGregoAward (for dancers), to the most recent recipientand for the Timothy Dale Boggs Memorial Youth Scholarship to the state's youth coordinator.

Appoint a hall of fame committee chair. Effective 1988, nobodis to know who is on the committee. The couple that represents the area council is the chairman. Area council presidengets other members of the committee, one couple from each of the following: WesterDance Association, Spokane Callers and Cuers Association and the North Spokane Dance Association. The names of these couples shall be in a sealed envelope and passed on tthe chairmaalong with the hall of fame book

Get new officer information for the state directory by May 31 Sl.
Membership renewaforms will be given out from the state to be returned by the May meeting.

Get council and delegate approval on calendars for next year. If calendars are approvedmake sure the calendar information sheet (copy attached) is given to the delegates and these also are to be returned at the May general meeting.

Introduce the new Western Dance Association President

Make sure the vice president is in touch with the Spokane Interstate Fair Board about the dancing in the fall.

April President's Duties

Send the president's message for the May newsletter to the newsletter editor by the 1st of April.

Hold a board meeting this month where the board designates.

Review guidelines for officers at the April board meeting. The updated copies are to be turned in, one for the presidentone for the recording secretary and one for that position.

If calendars are going to be printed, have the calendar chair get bids on the printing of the calendars to be presented at the May general meeting for approval, also quotes on number of calendars.

May President's Duties

Send the president's message for the June newsletter to the newsletter editor by the 1st of May. This is the last newsletter until August for the September newsletter. This newsletter should include information about June, July, and August.

General meeting is on the first Sunday because of Mother's Day.

All club renewals forms are to be turned in by this meetingMake sure the Spokane Area Council's form is turned in also.

If the council calendar was approved at the March general meeting, the calendar information sheet that was handed out should be returned by this meeting.

Recognize the officers of the board who are going off.

Have the presidents board at the Western Dance Center updated for the past year. Call Bridget Smith, the calligrapher. Her phone numbers are: 509-747-5219 & Cell 509-991-5784.

Get a list of officers and committee chairs out to the new officers and committee chairs as soon as possible. This is the duty of the recording secretary.
